Nanasuke weaves their own memories “as they are,” imbued with a message for their future self, into the high-speed pop rock track “Ano Hi Mita Sora wo Boku wa Wasurenai” (I’ll Never Forget the Sky I Saw That Day).
It speaks of the beauty of the azure sky (sōkyū – the expansive blue sky) seen in childhood, a pure yearning for the cosmos (uchū – the universe, also “sora”), the things that change with the passage of time, and the precious feelings that never fade.
Born from deeply personal, real-life experiences, this song rides on an energetic and hook-filled sound, resonating with the primordial landscapes deep within each listener’s heart, leading to the strength to live in the present, and onward to hope for the future.
It would bring me great joy if, someday, someone in the future listens to this song and it helps them remember something irreplaceable. This is a soundtrack that captures a precious moment from the ongoing story of life, a tale spun by time.
あの日見たそらを僕は忘れない(Ano Hi Mita Sora wo Boku wa Wasurenai)
“This song, ‘Ano Hi Mita Sora o Boku wa Wasurenai’ (I’ll Never Forget the Sky I Saw That Day), is a very personal piece based on my own true-to-life memories and raw experiences. It speaks of the beauty of the sky I saw as a child, my innocent yearning for the stars, the changing scenery of my hometown as I grew, and the things I’ve lost along the way… I’ve carefully woven these nostalgic scenes and an unchanging, precious feeling into the lyrics, truly believing in the unique resonance of the Japanese words, their inherent power – what we call ‘Kotodama,’ the spirit dwelling in words.
The absolute core of my songwriting process, especially for this track, is to depict that very moment when past experiences and memories are not just wistful recollections, but are sublimated into potent ‘motivation’ to face and build the future. That’s why this song took the form of an energetic indie pop rock tune.
My deepest hope is that someday, when I’m much older, or perhaps when someone listening to this song is on the verge of forgetting something truly important, this music might help open the door of memory and become a small, guiding light to help them look forward once again.”
